Meccano

Meccano is a name that has managed to capture the imagination of millions of youngsters through many generations. It all began way back in the late 19th Century in Liverpool by a very well known name, Frank Hornby. He patented the idea of using nuts and bolts in a form of assembly under the name of Mechanics Made Easy. Shortly after, 1907 the name Meccano was adopted.

Still in Liverpool, the first production plant was created in the same year. Shortly after it had to be replaced due to growing demand, by its new location in Binns Road and West Derby Road. The Meccano brand turned out to be such a success that it launched two new production sites in Berlin and France.

Then in the seventies the company was taken over by General Mills, who were American owned. All manufacture eventually got transferred to Calais, which was soon to be the sole manufacturer worldwide.

Today Meccano is still going strong thanks to its flexible creation and the embracing of new technologies. The Micro Spykee is a good answer, although still requires to be built on taking delivery of the toy, you can also control it suing a remote control. The Spykee Robot itself, a more advanced model features all the Meccano traditions of parts and having to make it, but it also houses some impressive functions now found in the mediums of to day's multi technologically devised world in which we live.
